My week officially sucks.
The kids got sick over Mother’s Day weekend (because of course they did), and naturally, they passed it on to me. Cue four days of coughing, body aches, fatigue, and fevers for all of us.
We finally gave in and went to the doctor today, hoping for something simple. No such luck. It’s pneumonia.
My son’s oxygen levels were low enough that they had to do a nebulizer treatment right there in the office, which, thankfully, helped and kept us out of the hospital. Small win.
But that’s not all! He also has a double ear infection and possibly asthma, based on how well he responded to the nebulizer. So now we’re all on antibiotics, and Rohan has a shiny new inhaler to add to his ever-growing collection of medical gear.
And here’s the thing, when your kid has Type 1 diabetes, getting sick is never just getting sick. Illness makes him super insulin resistant, which means we’re fighting high blood sugars and ketone build-up on top of everything else. And when he has no appetite? It’s a nightmare. Say goodbye to the weight gain win from last week.
We left with prescriptions, exhaustion, and a fresh dose of burnout. Just another week in the trenches.
Yay.
